Nexleaf Analytics (nexleaf.org) is a nonprofit technology company with a unique bottom-up approach for bringing data-driven impact to public health and climate change interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Our diverse team of computer scientists, software engineers, mechanical engineers, data scientists, public health experts, environmental advocates, and field managers design and deploy technology to ensure sustainable impact. We work directly with end users and iterate on our technology in the field to ensure that our sensors are customized to meet the specific needs in each country.

Partnering with leading institutions such as Gavi, Google.org, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Qualcomm Wireless Reach, Nexleaf helps deliver safe vaccines to over 12.5 million babies annually and connect 900 rural homes with mobile money payments for reducing carbon emissions through cleaner cooking. We work in a diverse set of countries, including India, Tanzania, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Kenya.

THE ROLE

As our first Finance & Operations Associate, you will bring your experience and systems thinking to impact important areas of our organization internally and externally. Reporting to the Head of Finance and Business Processes, you’ll be responsible for a variety of functions from reviewing transactions for month-end close to helping us streamline our logistics program.

In this role you will split your time between:

Bookkeeping & Accounting

- Book accounts receivable and payable by invoice; prepare payables for approval and payment

- Partner with our admin team to document credit card purchases and book expenses accordingly in our system

- Methodically review all credit card transactions, bank transactions, invoices, expense reports, etc to prepare for month-end close

- Review funder budget items to determine grant utilization, budget allocation, and to determine whether any expenses were incorrectly allocated to (or not allocated to) respective grants

- Prepare quarterly or annual funder reports

Manufacturing & Logistics

-Work with program leaders and the M&L team to enter new data fields, configurations and maintain workflows etc in JIRA

-Facilitate best practice sharing and create standardize processes including templates, user manuals and policies

Business Development Data Management

-Proactively curate and gather information about prospective sales opportunities, e.g. identify partners working in countries, researching annual government budgets, population size, and any expected political change

-Participate in meetings to keep opportunities updated and engage stakeholders through data generation, maintenance and workflow management

Requirements

-Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant bookkeeping and data entry experience

-Strong attention to detail with an eye for process improvement

-Experience in manufacturing & logistics a plus

-Prior experience owning the entire recording process for revenue and expenses, to include a full financial audit by a credible third party

-Prior experience working for both for profit and non-profit preferable

-Proficiency with accounting software (Xero peferred), project management (JIRA preferred) and Microsoft Excel
